We will be providing warm ups, work outs, technical exercises, fun combinations and recital dances to you through our private YouTube account until further notice.
We will also be providing a select number of live classes on the virtual platform "Zoom".
We know a video is very different than a live class, but we are making the best of these troubling times and looking forward to returning to the studio.
If you have not read our official studio response to new restrictions surrounding
COVID-19, please do so below.
Please create a Facebook account to access our live classes.
Request to join our private Facebook group "Next Step Performing Arts Performers Parents and Friends" for a class schedule and instructions.
If you are unable to access Facebook, please email us at email@example.com for alternative access.
NEXT STEP OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO COVID-19 AS OF 3/15/2020
Please note this message was sent via email and Facebook 3/16/2020.
Dear Next Step Studio Dancers, Performers and Parents,
It pains us to confirm that we will be closed from March 16th to April 7th, per Governor Charlie Baker’s mandate given on 3/15/2020.
In this letter we will address the following items pertaining to our current situation:
Please read these informational segments in their entirety. They all connect and will set us up for quick success when we are able to safely reopen.
Online Classes and Resources
NSSPA is opening up a private YouTube channel featuring warm ups, work outs, exercises and combinations for the majority of genres and levels of dance we offer. We are hoping to have this channel up and running by Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. The link will be available only in our private Facebook group, Next Step Performing Arts Performers, Parents and Friends. Email us if you can’t find the group or do not have access to Facebook.
Your student is not limited to the videos for the classes they are enrolled in- we encourage students (and siblings and parents!) to use these resources to their fullest extent. Here are some tips on making this streaming service work for you!
In addition, as soon as possible we will be posting videos (and written instructions when needed by age) on our YouTube channel for 2020 recital dances.
Finally, we will be having a “Dancer of the Day” competition. Send a 30 second video of your dancer to NextStepSpirit@gmail.com, and two dancers a day will be chosen to be featured on our Facebook and Instagram!
Students can also send videos to this email asking for corrections or tips on specific steps they are practicing, and we will get back to them with how to improve. For example, if a student is having trouble making the right number of noises in a tap step, is losing their balance while turning or struggling to get over in a cartwheel, we will watch the video and do our best to offer a suggestion on how to fix the problem.
While nothing can ever replace the studio life we have come to know and love, we hope these resources will help students make it through the next few weeks.
As of Sunday March 15th, 2020 we are scheduled to re-open Wednesday April 8th. If the Quabbin Regional School District closes for longer than the time mandated by the state, we will reassess and issue another statement.
When we reopen, we will be operating on a strict drop off/pick up only policy for students over age 8 as to comply with the CDC recommendation regarding gatherings over 50 people. If your student is under 8, please only have them accompanied by a single adult.
At this time, we will be making up two weeks during April vacation on an altered/extended schedule (April 20th-24th). We will be taking polls and doing extended communications to make sure as many students as possible can attend as many make up classes as they can. Our online resources will account for the third week of classes on the books- but we hope they will keep them invested in their dance education for all the time we are separated.
Recitals and other performances
As of today, March 15th 2020, the following events are still scheduled to run as posted in September 2019:
-Spirit of Dance Awards, May 15th-17th (Dance Team only)
- Little Feet Recital, June 12th
-MAT Recital, June 26th
-Dance Recital Dress Rehearsal and Dance Recital, June 27th and 28th
As many of you know, we traditionally do a costume picture day in the spring. We considered a few different dates, but at this time we would like to formally announce Sunday June 14th for MAT and Dance Recital photos. Little Feet classes will have their photos taken the day of their recital, June 12th.
We are waiting on word from the Flying Irish Spring Feis (April 18th) and The Royal Dance Competition (May 1-3rd).
We would like to take this opportunity to make a fun announcement:
As a 5th season celebration, all students in 1st grade and older are invited to be in our Full Studio Grand Finale!
This will be the largest group of dancers we have ever put on stage at the same time. While we have had this planned for several months, we are excited to create this uplifting piece that will focus on celebrating dance, community and teamwork after our country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. When the studio re-opens, there will be a full studio roster in the lobby where you can indicate whether or not your child would like to participate. There is no cost for participation, but students must be available to rehearse Thursday 6/18 and Tuesday 6/23 to participate. Participation may require the purchase of a specific color leotard and/or tee shirt under $20.00, but we are trying our best to costume everyone from items they are already using in this year’s recital!
We hope you are looking forward towards our 5th anniversary celebration!
Tuition and Payments
PO Box 1102
Barre, MA 01005
In the next day or two, many of you will receive invoices from Intuit Quickbooks Online.
Please open the invoice all the way, read each line and the messages in the larger boxes. What you see when you first open the email is not the full invoice, you must open the attachment.
Costume due dates are between 3/18 and 3/20. Please place your payment in the mail as soon as possible so we can make our final payments to the costume companies and continue schedule with our recital plans.
A break down of costume costs is attached to this letter.
Competition Fee invoices will be addressed in the Comp Team BAND app.
We are taking advantage of the extra office time and sending out tuition invoices for the rest of the season so our families can plan. Billing has been a struggle this year, so we thank you for your patience. We are working on a new angle for next season (but that’s information for another letter!)
If you are experiencing a hardship from COVID-19, please reach out to us. As a small business, we understand the financial strain the pandemic is putting on small and social businesses.
Please check and see if you are up to date on your tuition payments so we can continue to cover our costs and pay our staff during this tough time. While we are extremely fortunate to have grown a lot over the last five years, we are still a young business.
Please do not come to the studio to drop off a payment. Our building is closed and no one will be in the studio to accept payment.
As always, please email any questions to NextStepPerformingArts@gmail.com.
A personal note from the Director
Over the weekend, I received a lot of messages from concerned parents. Some had already pulled their children for the month; others were pleading with me to stay open, so their children had some sense of normalcy. It was a difficult weekend trying to make the right choice, to come up with a plan or a compromise. I know this has been a stressful weekend for everyone and I appreciate you taking the time to read, process and act on all this information.
We are already missing our students and are itching to gather them back together for our normal days of joyful noise and movement.
Stay healthy and dance on!
Miss Hannah and the NSSPA staff
The list of costume prices is available at the bottom of the PDF emailed to each account holder and posted on our private Facebook group.
